The calendar of YAH is unfortunately a contentious issue, always has been for probably the last 40 years or so, and seems that it will always be. As many Messianic or Hebrew Roots people on earth, so many calendars exist. Most people are too puffed up to conform to the calendars presented by others, while other believers simply follow what they think is right.
We do not have the answers to everything, but present a calendar here for guidance only. In order not to cause division, we will always be willing to fall in with other groups for celebrating the set-apart festivals. We therefore do not enter into discussions or arguments and when anyone can prove errors in our calendar from Scripture, we will accept it as such. Until then, this is what we have. We do not find any calendar discussions in Scripture, except for the dates given in Vayiqra 23 and other passages; Yeshua was never in diasgreement with anyone regarding calendar issues, and what was good enough for him, is good enough for us.
After many discussions and debates with various people, as well as months of research, we have come to the conclusion that the sighted moon, sliver, is not the actual start of the month. Our belief is that the start of a new month occurs at conjunction, hence the dates we have on our calendar will always differ with most of whatever else is published either in print or on other websites.
The calendar presented here is based on Scripture, not the Gregorian or any other calendar. The calendar starts on the first Scriptural month Aviv and ends on the Sciptural month Adar. However, for continuity, we start with the last month of the previous Scriptural year (Adar) and end with the first month of the following Scriptural year, Aviv. The vertical line that separates two days indicates sunset, as per Scripture and not midnight. In many cases, the last week of a month is repeated the following month when it doesn’t take up the entire week. For reference purposes, we have added the Gregorian date bottom right, which comprises the largest part of a particular Scriptural day. The times for new moon and full moon are per SAST, two hours before UTC.
We do not use and names for months that originated in Bavel (Babylon), but only those found in Scripture. Where a month can’t be named, it is simply referred to by its number in the sequence. To establish some form of reference, we currently use the years as indicated by rabbinical Judaism, although we are not in total agreement with their point of view.
Scriptural festivals are indicated in red text, whereas man-made festivals are indicated in green text and simply provided for informational purposes. We do not celebrate these festivals, but take note of any value it may add to our lifestyle in following Yeshua. Weekly Torah portions are shown for every Shabbat, with the appropriate passages from Scripture. Names if most books are transliterations of their Hebrew names and the original names are available on request.
As we consider this calendar a “work-in-progress”, there may be errors, for which we apologise beforehand. You are more than welcome to point out any errors you may encounter. Some months may not yet be available, but we endeavour to add them as soon as possible.
